A letter we received recently from one of our satisfied CEREC patients:
"...I recently visited your office under extreme pain caused by an old, large back tooth with a large silver filling. Which you diagnosed as a cracked tooth. You suggested that it needed to be shaved down and a cap inserted. Sitting there knowing that having previous caps put in, I was looking at a 3 to 4 week process. Much to my surprise you informed me that was no longer the case. Due to the new equipment you recently purchased I can have the work done (completely) in one visit. I am happy to report that not only does it fit perfectly but it looks great and was less expensive! Thank you very much..." Alan J.
Since its' inception in 1990, the dental office of Dr. Robert M. Thies, PC / Amazing Smiles Family Dental Care has made a commitment to deliver the most up-to-date and high-tech treatment and materials available for dental offices. As a result, our patients benefit from treatments that are faster, more predictable, more pain-free, and in many cases less expensive than more traditional treatments. The latest addition to our office is the CEREC® "Same Day Crown" system.
CEREC® is an advanced dental technology that is utilized for the restoration of decayed, cracked, or chipped teeth. CEREC® can create full crowns, inlays, onlays, and veneers. The CEREC machine crafts a restoration in a matter of minutes.
The CEREC® system is comprised of the latest 3-D bluecam LED camera, a medical grade computer and a CAD-CAM milling machine, all located on site at our state-of-the-art office.
The CEREC® system allows the Doctors at Amazing Smiles to repair a damaged tooth in slightly more than 1 hour using tooth-colored ceramic restorations.
The high-tech CEREC® camera takes a 3-dimensional optical impression of the damaged tooth, and uploads the image to the computer. This step avoids the uncomfortable impressions and molds that induce gagging. The 3-D image is far superior to the multiple steps involved in traditional crown fabrication. The image and design software uses 3-D CAD (Computer Aided Design) software to design the restoration that is more predictable, and a crown that fits better than traditional fabrication methods. A better fitting crown means that it will last longer because it has better resistance to re-decay of the crown. The patient also benefits by avoiding the sensitivity and inconvenience of "temporary" crowns that break, fall off, or are swallowed while eating. Lastly, CEREC® restorations are made of compressed porcelain. It is for this reason that they are stronger than laboratory restorations, which are layered porcelain. Higher strength means more resistance to practure and the need for replacement.
Once the crown imaging and design is complete, the CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) system takes over to automatically create the restoration while the patient waits.
Finally, the new custom-crafted restoration is bonded to the remaining healthy tooth tissue of the damaged tooth. The entire procedure usually take slightly more than 1 hour!
